Job Summary
The Ceramic Engineer /Ceramist along with the R&D head is responsible for shade matching of porcelain production and for smooth transfer of the porcelain tile design into the production process by supporting the production team, preparing the materials and planning the efficient usage of production materials while achieving the overall cost reduction and adhering to ISO and other international standards.
Job description
- Responsible for the porcelain tile design process from design support, raw material testing, formulating and compositing for existing and new tile products and ensuring quality standards are met for the finished goods.
- Working with the Design team, develop new designs based on the market information received from Sales and Marketing. Monitor, analyze and evaluate standards for new raw material by studying manufacturing and engineering requirements, carrying out testing methods and procedures as per in-house and relevant standard specifications.
- Conduct all plant trials for new raw material suppliers, conduct pilot trials with Operators as part of the cost reduction which may affect the quality standards and production grades. Calculate the financial feasibility on the data sheet and together with the R&D Section Head determine the introduction or optimization of such new designs and/or raw materials.
- Monitor, analyze and evaluate quality and reliability standards (e.g. shade matching) according to ISO procedures by studying product and consumer requirements with R&D Section Head, Sales and Marketing, Production and the Design team. Together with the Design team, prepare the requirements of the Sales and Marketing teams for test reports and formulation of new recipes for new tiles. Request raw material from the Store and/or Supply Chain team, clarifying any supply questions with suppliers and ensuring materials are available when required. Monitor body fired raw materials used for production on a daily basis.
- As a point of contact for technical questions, support the Operators and ensure the accurate production of glaze design as well as Technical design.
- Prepare records of all documents developed as per the company’s procedures and ISO standards.
- Participate in the monthly design meetings, presenting updates to all attendees and senior management, as needed.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by including but not limited to attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and participating in professional societies in person or virtually.
Maintain good housekeeping, cleanliness and orderliness within the area of responsibility as per company standards. - Comply with safety requirements and encourages safe working practices.
