Job Purpose
- Responsible for overseeing the design, installation, configuration and maintenance of DSO voice, data and Security infrastructure. Manage the campus-wide DSO communications network, ensuring that satisfactory level of services, connectivity and performance are maintained to all users, customers with a minimum cost and maximum availability.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure the reliability and efficient performance of various existing network equipment to enable the necessary IT support to external / internal users.
- Perform network security design and integration and Conduct regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Provide escalated support and troubleshooting to maintain high availability and performance of the network.
- Work closely with colleagues to meet team goals and improve processes and practices
- To ensure at all times that all systems/equipment and network installations are operating efficiently in a way that enables the company to achieve its short term and long term business objectives.
- Responsible for testing all equipment on network subsets without jeopardizing performance criteria by the additions of any equipment to line network platform.
- Undertake software testing on network equipment of different subsets to ensure the integrity of performance criteria prior to the introduction of any equipment of software to live network system.
- Ensure that the network requirement of any new software is supportable by the network over which it will operate.
- Managing assigned projects for network and security of infrastructure and to deliver services in accordance with IT department’s objectives.
- Stay abreast of new technologies in the market place and make continued proposals to the business where improvements are possible.
- Responsible for accurate reporting of the equipment performance for future reviews to ensure that appropriate documentation exists for all the network systems.
- Ensure adherence to DSOA procedures and policies and that all networking projects and installations comply with DSOA IT standards and Isolation Procedures established under the safety policies.
- Provide inputs for building standard telecom design guidelines in various DSOA projects.
- Engage in projects to design, analyze and confirm technical and network infrastructure related aspects of solution architecture and design, considering specific business constraints, requirements and dependencies.
- Measure the quality of the developed solution from an architecture perspective and ensure the conformance of delivered network infrastructure designs with predefined quality metrics.
- Optimize the current network through thoughtful changes in the current architecture and design
- Identify technology gaps, develop and implement appropriate solutions collaboratively.
- Develop and maintain backup/disaster recovery plan for a network emergency.
- Facilitate the selection of ICT vendors through a defined and auditable process to ensure fair and viable best fit against DSOA’s requirements.
- Maintaining the external relationships with the vendors/ Service Providers/ Partners new technologies, requirements and case tracking.
- Performs research in support of the architecture within which these products are implemented.
- Tests and develops integration of multiple networking hardware and software products and architectures.
- Review generated reports regarding network deficiencies and faults and inform the management.
- Preparing and maintaining procedures and documentation for network inventory, and recording diagnosis and resolution of network faults, enhancements and modifications to networks, and maintenance instructions.
- Conducts technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system
- Mentoring and supporting other engineers in the team.
